Hope Jewell: Hutch Home Takeover

Hope Jewell: Hutch Home Takeover

This month we worked alongside, local (super talented!) photographer, Hope Jewell-Vinson. Hope and co-owner, Nick, traveled around to all of the hutch employee's houses to photograph a few spaces. We thought it would be fun to ask each employee a series of questions about their house and share the answers with all of you!

Meet our General Manager, Teri.

What is your favorite piece of furniture in your home?

My Atwood Sofa by Gus* Modern, in Berkeley Coral. It is the first sofa that I have owned, that I absolutely love. It compliments all the other colors & pieces that I have in my home perfectly.

Where do you relax?

I love to relax in my living room. After a long day of work, I come home & light one of the many candles scattered throughout my place. Then I curl up on the sofa and just unwind. Throw in a glass of wine and it’s a great night.

Do you cook?

Yes, but not as much as I would like too. I have perfected 3 meals that I tend to keep on rotation.  In the New Year I am looking to enhance my cooking skills & add more variety to my meal prep.

What is your most prized possession in your home?

My most price possessions are small trinkets that have been passed down to me, from my grandparents and parents. I do not collect or hoard much, but what I do, is important to me.

What is one piece you would die to get in your space?

I would die to get a pair of Vintage Danish Modern Lounge Chairs. That I would then reupholster in a fabric of my choosing. Which right now would be a Black & White Pendleton Fabric.

What is your personal style for your home?

My personal style is a mix of Modern & Vintage, with pops of color. I love mixing the old with the new and having things in my home, that are story tellers. I do not shy away from using color, texture and plants throughout my home. It’s important to me that my home reflects my personality & feels inviting and cozy.

Meet Co-Owner, Brandon.

What is your favorite piece of furniture in your home?

I actually have the original hutch (the one we named our business after) sitting in my dining room. It’s of course my favorite. We used to haul it to various locations throughout town to create some interesting marketing/draw attention. One morning we carried it to the middle of the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge and after reviewing the photos that night I decided I didn’t like the shots so we took it up again the next morning to reshoot. Morning joggers were very confused.

Where do you relax?

I relax on my couch with episodes of The Real Housewives playing in the background. There’s just something about middle aged women shouting and behaving badly that cracks calms all of my anxieties from the day. I’ve got two very snuggly beagles that are more human than dog and know how to manipulate food and attention from me every 3 min with a paw on my shoulder.

Do you cook?

I cook a little. I have a stack of vegetarian cook books that I got a few years back that I try and cook from. Or I just go to Freddies.  They just put up a new Freddies like 3 min from my house like a year ago. My life has never been the same.

What is your most prized possession in your home?

My pups, Dylan (boy/big) & Lucy (girl/small) are my most prized possessions. We have a very special connection.

What is one piece you would die to get in your space?

I would really love to get the Spencer sofa (in Parliament Stone) by Gus in my space. It’s compact which would fit my home perfectly.

What is your personal style for your home?

At this point in my life my personal style is “ghetto vintage”. Over the years Nick and I have collected hundreds and hundreds of vintage pieces. Most of the good ones were sold but I’ve collected various smalls here and there that I’ve been able to hang on to. As I work to fix up my house (I planned to have it completely flipped by now) I have had to create a balance between what I want it to be and what I can currently afford.

Meet Interior Designer, Jerome.

What’s your favorite piece of furniture in your home?

My dining set, it was my great grandparents table so it brings back a lot of great memories.

Where do you relax?

Up on our rooftop around the fire pit :)

Do you cook?

Absolutely! I love to cook especially desserts.

What is your most prized possession in your home?

My photographs most definitely but I’m also rather partial to my SHAG art.

What is one piece you would die to get in your space?

An original Eames Chair.

What is your personal style for your home?

Very eclectic, I like my home to be clean and uncluttered but I also like it to be comfortable and inviting.

Meet Interior Designer, Bryan.

What is your favorite piece of furniture in your home?

I would say my Eastlake antique sideboard. It has a beautiful black marble top and is a family heirloom.  Fun fact: Eastlake was the start of the modern minimal movement, moving away from ornate detail during the Victorian Era. It is noted as the “The first glimpses of modernism”.  That’s why it lives so beautifully around other modern design elements of the 19th Century.

Where do you relax?

My living room, mainly to Netflix and chill.

Do you cook?

If Abelardo take out is considered cooking…

What is your most prized possession in your home?

My vintage chandelier in my dining room.  It’s my favorite find ever,... and I found it in the back of an antique store in Walnut Iowa.

What is one piece you would die to get in your space?

One piece I’ve been really wanting is an original Warhol of Sam the Cat. My most favorite pieces done by Andy Warhol. I want to do a collection of cat art in my spare bedroom.

What is your personal style for your home?

I would call it Natural Bohemian. I love the natural feelings my home evokes. Tribal prints, such as my ikat wall stencil, elements of jute, wool textures and raw materials allow my space to feel curated. Love objects that seem obscure; items that have a soul and a story to tell.

Meet Co-Owner, Nick.

What is your favorite piece of furniture in your home?

It probably has to be my canvas sling rocking chair in my living room. The color of the canvas, the tubular steel frame and the wooden arms have me all sorts of worked up. The lines are amazing, and it actually folds up too! I think it was originally intended as a fancy camping chair.

Where do you relax?

When I’m home, I’m either eating or laying in my bed. I’m rarely ever home, so I just stick to the basics.

Do you cook?

I love to cook, but I do weave between pre-made Costco meals as well as preparing my own meals. If I do cook, its typically pasta or some sort of veggie dish.

What is your most prized possession in your home?

I have several things from my grandmother. One of her best friends was a Navajo Indian named, Midge. Midge made large clay pots, bowls and beautiful tapestries. These handmade items mean a lot to me.

What is one piece you would die to get in your space?

It sounds so dumb, but I have a multi-colored Herman Miller hang-it-all and I can’t find a spot for it! My space is pretty petite and wall of the walls are currently being utilized. It’s just been sitting in my basement, and it makes me very sad.

What is your personal style for your home?

I noticed I only have about 3 actual new items in my home, everything else is thrifted or inherited. So I would say my style definitely leans heavy on found, vintage items that tell a story. Whatever you call that. Oh, and I’m not afraid of color.

Meet our Photographer, Emma.

What is your favorite piece of furniture in your home?

It’s a tie between my sofa and my desk. I have an addiction to workspaces and that white desk with the matching file cabinet just makes me incredibly happy. I had eyed my sofa for a year, and still can’t believe it lives in my space!

Where do you relax?

Definitely in bed with a million blankets and probably watching New Girl.

Do you cook?

Every time I cook, I set off fire alarms or injure myself... so no. I don’t usually cook. I’m working on it though!

What is your most prized possession in your home?

This sounds ridiculous, but honestly, my iMac.

What is one piece you would die to get in your space?

I am dying to find a vintage checkered racing flag. I have asked so many race tracks, been to countless swap meets, thrift stores and vintage shops and no one seems to have one. Racing has always been a huge part of my life, so I’d love to find one, frame it and hang it up in my apartment.

What is your personal style for your home?

I’m a firm believer that less is more. I’d say my personal style is pretty minimalist.
