The People of hutch: Katie Billue

The People of hutch: Katie Billue

I currently am a plastic surgery fellow at UNMC, which inevitably brought me to Omaha. I moved here in June 2017 with my two French Bulldog pups (Boo & Fritz), and we couldn't be happier.

I don't have a lot of free time with my fellowship, but when I get pockets of time, I love to walk outside and explore Blackstone District and Midtown Crossing. I haven't been disappointed yet with the food, drink or retail. Speaking of retail, hutch was the first place that I walked into that made me feel like home. I fell in love with their style and offerings and decided to furnish my entire place with hutch furniture.

I live in the Blackstone District in the Blackstone Union Apartments, which they were built in 2016.  I love Blackstone because it is close to the hospital, had covered parking and I love the modern look of the unit. My favorite space in my apartment is the kitchen/living room combo.  I love the big island and my wine fridge, and of course my living room full of hutch goodies.

I love hutch because they made my move from Ohio so much easier.  I was able to furnish my house from afar (via emails) with the help of one of the owners, Nick, who is part of the hutch design team.  My favorite piece is my couch. I was able to pick out the fabric I wanted as well as the style. I have always had more traditional furnishings, but I love the retro look of the couch. I picked the grey color to hide dog hair!  Almost every other furniture decision was inspired by the couch.

My second favorite spots in my apartment are a tie: my bedroom and office. These spaces offer additional spaces for serenity, which are welcomed with my hectic fellowship schedule. My dogs absolutely love lounging in the chair and a half (which pulls out to a single bed!), while I work extra hours at my desk.

My love for quality goods has been satiated by hutch. I am so thankful this store was in such close proximity to my new home, and they couldn’t have been better to work with. My shoe collection, my puppies and I are happy to call Omaha home for the next three years.
